How to create discount promo codes for your store

Updated over a week ago

Cartum has two options for creating promotional codes that customers can use when placing an order:

  • A certificate is a one-time code for a fixed discount amount.

  • A coupon is a promotional code that can be used multiple times. The discount amount for a coupon is indicated as a percentage.

Both types of promotional codes help to attract new customers and retain existing ones, increasing loyalty and sales.

Особливості налаштування купонів

  • The use of coupons can be limited by specifying the brands and sections for which the promo code will be valid in the settings.

  • In the coupon settings, you can specify whether the promo code will apply to products for which other discounts have already been set up.

Promo code at checkout

Customers will be able to enter the promo code in a special field in the shopping cart or on the checkout page.

If the coupon or certificate applies only to some items in the shopping cart, a sticker appears next to these items.

If there are no products in the order that are covered by the promo code specified by the customer, a warning message appears.

How to create a certificate

  1. In the admin panel, go to Discounts → Discount codes and click +Add.

  2. In the Type field, select Gift certificate.

  3. Enter the Code that the customer should enter to use the certificate.

You can use numbers and Latin characters. The total number of characters is up to 10.

  4. In the Discount value field, specify the value of the certificate.

  5. Set the certificate validity period in the Valid till field.

  6. In the Brands list, select which brands' products the certificate will cover. If you want the certificate to apply to all brands, do not select any of them.

  7. In Categories, select which catalog categories the certificate should apply to. If you do not select any of them, the certificate will work with all categories. For the discount to apply to a category and its subcategories, select the partition and all subcategories by holding down the Ctrl (Windows) or ⌘ (macOS) key.

  8. In the Currency field, select the currency of the certificate.

  9. Check the Active box and click Save.

How to create a coupon

  1. In the admin panel, go to Discounts → Discount codes and click +Add.

  2. In the Type field, select Discount coupon.

  3. Enter the Code to redeem the coupon. You can use numbers and Latin characters. The total number of characters is up to 10.

  4. In the Discount value field, specify the discount value as a percentage.

  5. Check the Valid for products with discount box if you want the coupon to be applied to products with an already discounted price.

  6. In the Valid till field specify the date until which the discount coupon will be valid.

  7. In the Quantity field, specify how many times this coupon could be used.

  8. In the Brands list, specify the brands whose products the coupon will apply to. If you want the coupon to work for all brands, do not select any of them.

  9. In the Categories field, select which catalog categories the certificate should apply to. If you do not select any of them, the coupon will work with all categories. For the discount to apply to a category and its subcategories, select that section and all subcategories by holding down the Ctrl (Windows) or ⌘ (macOS) key.

  10. Check the Active box and click Save.

Generating certificates and coupons in bulk

If you need to create a large number of promo codes at once, there's no point in doing it manually. Use the Generate certificates feature.

Once generated, the coupons or certificates will appear in the appropriate section, where, if necessary, each of them can be edited separately.

How to create a large number of promo codes at once:

  1. In the Discounts → Discount codes section, click Generate discount codes.

  2. In the Discount type field, select whether you want to generate Gift certificates or Discount coupons.

  3. In the Discount value field, specify the value of the discount (for certificates) or its percentage (for coupons).

  4. In the Discount code quantity field, specify the number of certificates or coupons to be generated.

  5. For coupons only: In the Limit number of uses field, specify how many times each coupon can be used.

  6. In the Valid till calendar, specify the date until which the certificates or coupons will be valid.

  7. Click Save to start generating.
