Filling a product catalog always starts with creating a category structure. This is not the easiest task, because you need to take into account several factors at once.
First, the structure should be as simple and clear as possible for customers. This will help visitors find the right products faster and increase the conversion rate of visitors to customers.
Second, you need to take into account the semantics of your website and create categories in such a way that they correspond to the search queries that customers use to find your products.
You often have to find a compromise between customer convenience and semantics. And your sales directly depend on how effectively you solve this problem.
How to add a new category
To add a category:
Go to the section Website → Pages in the site admin panel.
On the left, you will see a tree of categories.
Move the cursor to the section in which you want to create a new category and press [+].
After that, the window for creating a new page will open, in which you need to fill in at least the following information:
Page title in all language versions;
URL — by default, it will be generated automatically by transliteration of the title, but you can change it;
Template — defines what characteristics will be used to describe products in this category.
Warning: Do not use the / symbol in the names of directory partitions, as it is used as a system delimiter in the path to subdirectories during import.
Important: If a category has already been assigned a product template and product data has been loaded, changing the product template will result in the loss of product characteristic values.
Then you need to save the page:
